Planting
Choose partial or full shade with fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Protect the leaves from afternoon sun; a cool woodland edge is more suitable than an exposed, hot border.
Care
Mulch to help the soil stay cool and retain moisture. Divide established clumps if needed.
Before planting: Dry soil and hot, humid conditions cause problems; direct hot sun can scorch the leaves.
