Planting
Plant in partial shade with moist soil rich in organic matter. More sun is possible where moisture is reliable; woodland edges and shaded borders suit its loose habit.
Care
Cut tired foliage to ground level when it deteriorates. It seeds freely, with young plants normally flowering in their second year, so leave space for a changing colony.
