Planting
Choose full sun and exceptionally well-drained soil in a hot, dry position. Rock gardens and large containers suit it; damp, heavy ground is unsuitable.
Care
Established clumps tolerate heat and drought, so avoid keeping the roots constantly damp. Check leaves and flower stems for scale insects or aphids if growth becomes affected.
Before planting: Deer can browse the plant despite its tough appearance.
