Planting
Choose sun or partial shade and moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Leave room for good airflow and mulch to keep the root zone cool.
Care
Water at soil level during dry summers and remove faded flower heads. In winter, cut down and remove old stems to reduce mildew carry-over; taller stems may need support.
Before planting: Powdery mildew is a common concern, especially where growth is crowded and air circulation is poor.
