Planting

Choose sun or partial shade with sandy or shallow, rocky soil that drains well. Keep it out of excessively rich ground, where its tall stems are more likely to flop.

Care

Cut stems back by half in late spring for a fuller, shorter plant. Keep some hollow dead stems standing later as nesting habitat for bees.

Before planting: Flower spikes can weigh stems down, so allow for support if the plant becomes floppy.
